Stevie Wonder has asked the gaming industry to make more games accessible to the disabled.
At the VGA awards over the weekend, music legend Stevie Wonder - blind since birth - presented the award for Best Music Game to The Beatles: Rock Band, and used the moment to praise the rhythm-action genre for making music accessible to everyone while asking the industry to make games more accessible to the disabled.
Let's face it: disabled access is something which the industry, as a whole, hasn't really touched. These days, games tend to be focused on visuals and physical involvement, though there are a few examples of titles which remove visuals from the equation entirely. Certainly, closed-captioning appears in some games - notably, anything by Valve - which will certainly aid the deaf, but it's harder to think of solutions to make games accessible to those with other disabilities.
Still, our industry is driven by creativity, and we look forward to seeing which developers and publishers will take up this gauntlet.
