Australian Government Opens Classification Debate To Public
14 Dec 2009 at 12:48:35 by Andy AldersonThe Australian government has invited the public into the debate on adult game classification.
A government web page asks the public for their “submissions” on the issue, which had previously only been considered by censorship ministers.
“The Commonwealth Government has released a discussion paper which briefly summarises the key arguments for and against an R 18+ classification for computer games,” reads the page.
“Submissions are being sought on whether the Australian National Classification Scheme should include an R 18+ classification category for computer games. Submissions can be made by downloading and completing the submission template.”
The cut-off date is 28 February 2010, so time to wax opinionated Australians!
The Aussie censorship system currently has no adult rating for games beyond MA 15+, meaning many adult-oriented titles are refused classification by the Office of Film and Literature Classification (OFLC) or are only passed once edits have been made.
