UK Government Explains Stance On Tax Breaks

The UK Government has responded to criticism of its decision to reject tax break proposals for UK game developers.

IncGamers, journalistic stalwarts that we are, went straight to the chancellor Alistair Darling for comment, but it turns out he was too busy cowering under his briefcase and we were sent an official statement instead.

“The Government values the economic and cultural contribution the video games industry makes to the UK. However, the Government is not currently persuaded that the evidence provided by the industry is sufficiently compelling to justify the introduction of a tax relief at this time,” said the statement.

“Companies in the video games industry benefit from the UK having the lowest corporation tax rate in the G7 and from policies designed to support investment and innovation across the whole economy, such as the UK's generous R&D tax credit schemes."

So there you go, we don’t need tax breaks in the UK.
