Nintendo has revealed sales of Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars on the DS have not met the company’s expectations.
In an interview with MTV, Nintendo’s Cammie Dunaway explained that Nintendo is disappointed with the sales of the critically-acclaimed handheld title.
“It’s frustrating, quite frankly,” said Dunaway.
“Certainly there have been mature titles – Resident Evil, the first Call of Duty – that sold over a million units. And with something like GTA, there’s great content there.”
However, Dunaway stressed that the game will have a “long tail” as DS customers continue to discover it.
“But part of what’s needed is you have to continue to put marketing support behind these titles,” she stressed.
“The old dynamic of ‘throw it on television for a few weeks and then move on and forget it’ just doesn’t work.”
