The Scottish gaming industry has received a much-needed cash injection from the UK government.
£2.5 million GBP has been given to the Dundee-based Abertay University, according to the BBC, to fund a specialist centre that will aid video game development studios with making new titles. Scottish games developers are also due to receive almost £1 million GBP from Europe, the Scottish government revealed.
The cash will go towards creating up to 400 new jobs in the industry by sparking up 30 new companies and helping 80 others. Many gaming companies are now based in Dundee, which has firmly established itself as the hub of the growing Scottish gaming industry.
"Dundee has always been a city of innovation and has a well-earned reputation as the heartland of Scotland's gaming industry,” said the Scottish Secretary Jim Murphy. "This investment now confirms Dundee as one of the key centres in the UK as well, and will allow Abertay University to grow Scotland's international reputation for its talents in video games creation."
