Bungie On Halo Franchise Past And Future

Bungie has discussed the ways in which Halo 3: ODST has affected Halo: Reach.

Speaking to G4TV, a handful of Bungie developers talked about the way ODST will impact Reach, and what mistakes were made that won't be repeated.

Design lead Lars Bakken noted that "In terms of development practices, I can already see some influences that crept over to Reach," but more interesting is that this may not be the last time we see the ODSTs, with writer and creative director Joseph Staten adding that "It would be a shame if we made a game about the planet Reach - a place where Buck, the ODST's squad leader, was known to be - and not have him appear in some way shape or form..."

Halo 3 ODSTBungie also acknowledged that there were mistakes made with Halo 3: ODST. "I'm no PR expert," said Bakken, "but it's pretty obvious the game had a series of stumbles; from the naming, to the initial E3 2008 countdown reveal failure, and finally pricing."

"It would definitely be nice to have a do-over for the game introduction," he commented.

We do have our own interview with Lars Bakken, of course, as well as a review of Halo 3: ODST. See what we thought over here.
