Microsoft is apparently very pleased with the response to the Sky Player service on Xbox LIVE.
Neil Thompson, Microsoft senior regional director for northern Europe, told GamesIndustry.biz that despite some initial problems with the service, there has been an impressive response from Xbox LIVE users.
“Exactly. We were blown away - literally - by the response we had, and we took some flak, probably fairly,” said Thompson, presumably unclear on the meaning of the word “literally.”
“We didn't scale to quite the scale we should have, and I take that criticism on board and we've learned from it. But now it's up and running, people are loving it, the subscription rates, the download rates for the application and so on are just blowing my mind away, they're blowing the people at Sky's minds away.”
However, it seems the popular BBC iPlayer, recently made available for PS3 and Wii users, will not be making an appearance on LIVE.
“We have no plans for iPlayer on Xbox at this point,” he said.
