Sony has confirmed that the next firmware update for the PS3 will include Facebook support.
The US PlayStation Blog has confirmed that the PlayStation 3's v3.10 firmware update, due "soon," will add Facebook support to the black box, as was rumoured last week.
Apparently, all you'll have to do is link your PlayStation Network account to your Facebook account, and you'll get the option to have your PS3 update your Facebook news feed with Trophy and PlayStation Store activity.
Developers will be able to play with it, too, with the PlayStation Blog reporting that they can "set specific criteria in their titles to publish additional game information to your News Feed." And, of course, you can use the PS3's web browser to then check Facebook and Twitter and the like.
Update 3.10 will also include other bits and pieces. Mentioned so far are a revamp of the Photo section, and a modification of the Friends List "based on feedback [...] received after update 3.00." Oh, and there's the ability to change the colour of your PSN ID, too.
Whether or not this'll steal any of the thunder from Facebook, Twitter, and Zune hitting the 360 today remains to be seen, but this certainly seems like a timely announcement from Sony.
