For the very first time, Zelda will be accompanying Link on his quest to save Hyrule in The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks.
Rather than staying out of sight or being captured by Ganon, Zelda is set to take a more active role in the forthcoming DS title.
According to Nintendo, Zelda will be able to take control of the hulking Phantoms as mentioned in our preview, but will also accompany Link on his train journeys and spend time "offering wisdom that will help players find new areas, storylines, and items." As long as this isn't prefaced by "Hey! Listen!" I'm sure we'll all get along fine.
It's going to be interesting to get an in-depth look at Zelda and see her personality come into focus a bit more, but we've got a little while to wait - Spirit Tracks isn't out over here until December.
