Industry veteran Charles Cecil is reportedly working on an game based on Minesweeper.
You read that right. According to G4TV (thanks, Blues) the rumoured game that Charles Cecil has been working on with Watchmen artist Dave Gibbons is based on Minesweeper.
Martin de Ronde of non-profit publisher OneBigGame told G4TV "He's [Cecil] come up with a back story for as to why the mines are there, he's come up with characters."
"It's turning out to be a really, really cool game in terms of mechanics and also in terms of the setting and the universe..." de Ronde added.
Whether it's an adventure game or not remains to be seen, but both the Beneath a Steel Sky iPhone remake and the DS re-release of Broken Sword have been pretty highly acclaimed. The mention of "mechanics" make us suspect something slightly different to a standard adventure, but this sounds very, very interesting.
We spoke to Cecil about his latest project, the DS tie-in for Jim Carrey film A Christmas Carol, and the full interview should be up soon - and speaking of interviews with Cecil, check out Peter Parrish's marvellous interview/retrospective over here.
We'll see what more we can dig up on this. Stay tuned.
