Rockstar has revealed that the company had plans for downloadable episodes from the beginning of the Grand Theft Auto IV project.
In an interview with CVG, Rockstar North’s Imran Sarwar explained that the developer always intended Niko’s story to only be part of a larger tale.
“Even at the end of his story, he's not the king of the town by any means,” said Sarwar.
“The idea was to use the episodes to reveal the rest of that world, to show some of the characters and events that were invisible to Niko and yet still had a bearing on events in his life."
He went on to explain that Rockstar chose not to include all three stories in the main game because it would dilute the focus of the game.
“We've always maintained that Liberty City is the real star of these games, and what makes it truly amazing is that it's so full of potential as an environment."
GTA IV: The Ballad of Gay Tony is out today exclusively on Xbox 360, check out the launch trailer here.
