Planescape: Torment, Baldur's Gate Re-Releasing This Week?

A load of old Interplay titles - including Planescape: Torment and Baldur's Gate - may be seeing re-releases later this week.

The news comes partially from Amazon and partially from PEGI. First spotted was this page on Amazon's UK website, showing Planescape: Torment complete with the new PEGI age ratings in the bottom left of the box, in addition to text reading "This item will be released on October 30, 2009," and a price of £17.99 GBP.

Further digging brings up plenty of other old Interplay titles also apparently due for release on that day - including Baldur's Gate, Baldur's Gate 2, Icewind Dale, Icewind Dale 2, and a variety of compilation boxes containing both the games and their expansions, for prices ranging from £4.99 GBP up to £17.99 GBP.

All titles are listed as being compatible with "Windows Vista / XP" and with dates of 2009. A quick look on PEGI's website also shows listings for these titles, which seems to give these re-releases a bit more credibility.

If true - and that's a big if - this is something to be excited about. Planescape: Torment is one of the finest RPGs ever released, and the Baldur's Gate series was equally seminal. Icewind Dale was less so, but it's nice to see it there anyway, sort of like a cousin you never really got on with but haven't seen for awhile as he went to live on a mountain for a few years.

We can't find similar listings in the US, which means that this could just be a European thing for now. It could also be a retailer listing error, but we really, really hope not, even though similar has happened on Amazon before, and these could be old boxes with PEGI's new rating superimposed on there. We'll keep you posted as we find out more, anyway.
