Earlier this year we reported the closure of Microsoft's Aces Studio, the studio behind Microsoft's Flight Sim franchise.
It seems all the former members of Aces Studio have now founded and launched a new studio, Cascade Game Foundry, based in Washington and focused on broadening the simulation market.
A statement from the studio claims Microsoft's departure from the market means there is a "significant hole" left to fill, and that Cascade Game Foundry will "push new boundaries with the latest in cutting-edge graphics, simulation and web technology."
Rick Selby, creative director at the studio, said that although the company will continue to cater for the hardcore, there will be a focus on a much wider audience.
The hardcore simulation fan is the critical foundation, but why stop there? We want to deliver unique experiences that appeal to diverse audiences around the world."
And don't just expect flight sims, train sims or bus sims either. Kathie Flood, managing director of the newly formed studio, said that we could even see games like "scuba diving off Hawaii, traversing the Andes [and] hiking the Great Wall of China."
Interesting to say the least, but we'll have to wait and see if their first project, which is currently in development, will stick to the more familiar simulator territory.
