Gran Turismo 5 developer Polyphony Digital has revealed it is putting the finishing touches to the game.
Speaking to Japanese mag Famitsu (via 1UP), Polyphony’s Kazunori Yamauchi explained that, although the scale of the game is huge, the basics are essentially complete.
"The scale of this title is just dizzying, so daily progress is slow, but it's still going forward at a steady clip,” he said.
“All the basic stuff is complete, but we're trying to give everything that little bit extra at present. We could release it any time we want, really, but I want to have that classic GT-style 'did we really have to go this far?' feel going. I want to go way beyond gamer expectations."
The development period for Gran Turismo 5 has become something of an inside joke in the game games industry and recently, Microsoft’s Phil Spencer brought it up when discussing the 360’s GT5 rival, Forza Motorsport 3.
