EA has announced it will use the NavPower AI pathfinder middleware in Skate 3.
NavPower, developed by BabelFlux LLC, is designed to support open world games with complex AI behaviour models.
“We chose NavPower because it provides the best support for our large, complex levels in terms of the rapid build process and the compact memory footprint," said Mike Rayner from Skate 3 developer Black Box.
"The NavPower feature set allows us to develop complex AI behaviors that look great even as the world changes dynamically around the SKATE characters."
Skate 3 features a new setting, Port Calverton, and will apparently focus on the social aspect of skating, allowing players to form their own skate team and face off against their rivals.
The game is due for release on PS3 and Xbox 360 in May 2010. In the meantime check out the first trailer here and our review of Skate 2.
