Will Rokos has been confirmed as the writer of Dante's Inferno.
Rokos is best known for penning Monster's Ball, nominated for a Best Original Screenplay Oscar, and hopes to create a new narrative which parallels the original masterpiece.
Jonathan Knight, executive producer of Dante's Inferno and fan of the poem, said the task was a challenge. Trying to capture the heart of the story and portraying it to modern-day audiences has been the focus of both Rokos and Visceral Games.
"Will's take on the Dante/Beatrice story brought the necessary conflict and action that made the material really work dramatically," said Knight.
Rokos has enjoyed working on the project which gave him the opportunity to "re-imagine Dante as a flawed hero with a dark past, and his determination to save the love of his life from a terrible fate. It was a truly unique experience to re-create one man's hell, one circle at a time."
Dante's Inferno will see players take on the role of Dante, the protagonist who braves the nine circles of hell to release his beloved and lost Beatrice. The game will be released early next year and, with the recent news of Garry Schyman taking care of the score, it's promising to be a pretty moving game. Whether or not it will do justice to the atmosphere the original poem is something else, but we're hoping it will.
