Left 4 Dead 2 Infects Digital Sales Charts

Left 4 Dead 2 pre-orders have rushed, hordelike, to the top of the Steam sales charts.

Valve's latest has taken the top spot in the Steam sales charts, which isn't all that surprising considering the 300% increase in figures from the first game, and the fact that it's on track to be Valve's fastest-selling game.

Pre-orders for the sequel are trailed by the original Left 4 Dead, which takes second place. This is equally unsurprising being that it's been 50% off on Steam for the past week, following the launch of the free (on PC) Crash Course DLC.

That said, Aion - which has ruled the charts for quite some time now - is still holding strong with the Collector's Edition in third and the standard edition in fifth, with recently-released RPG Risen coming between them at fourth. Without figures, it's hard to know whether or not Aion would still crack the top spot if the two versions were counted together, but we doubt it'd be far off, particularly considering how much Bill loved it in her recent review of the first 20 levels.

Risen's also doing well on Direct2Drive, where it has taken the top spot. We weren't that impressed with the 360 version, but there's hope that the PC version is superior. Either way, it's swiftly followed by Fallen Earth and Aion's standard edition (with the Collector's Edition taking fifth place.) On a personal note, I'm happy to see superb indie title Mount and Blade at fourth in the Direct2Drive charts, as it's an utterly brilliant freeform medieval action/RPG/strategy game.
