Ubisoft has announced its acquisition of Nadeo, the developer of the much-loved TrackMania series.
The Paris-based team has developed the TrackMania series, ranging from the original through TrackMania DS and the forthcoming TrackMania 2, and the original TrackMania has 700,000 unique players per month with almost 15 million custom tracks created since 2008.
Ubisoft's CEO, Yves Guillemot, believes that the acquisition is "an important step in our expansion within the online gaming sector," and notes that Ubi is "excited" to be able to introduce TrackMania to "an ever-wider audience," in addition to "sharing the expertise of Nadeo's teams with our Group's other developers."
Guillemot added "Through Nadeo, Ubisoft will gain an expert team, one of the best online technologies around as well as a flagship multiplayer game that enjoys an unrivalled reputation among a loyal and committed community."
Nadeo is certainly pleased, too. "Joining Ubisoft is a huge opportunity for us to develop and innovate and take Nadeo to new horizons," reckons Florent Castelnérac, CEO of Nadeo. "Nadeo's team was keen for this acquisition to happen. Like players in a community, we see ourselves as being a complementary fit with Ubisoft and believe that we can share and quickly move ahead together."
