Warcraft Film Renamed?

World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich KingPlans for a film based on Blizzard Entertainment's highly successful Warcraft franchise may have been completely revamped, according to sources.

The film, which was previously known simply as 'Warcraft' is now listed as “Warcraft: The Rise of the Lich King” on IMDB. Neither Blizzard nor partners Legendary Pictures have commented on the apparent change but, if this is right, the original plot for the film has changed too.

When the film was first announced, Blizzard said it would be based in the period between the Warcraft III game and World of Warcraft. As Arthas changes into the Lich King during Warcraft III, it is assumed the story has been changed completely. It's even possible the film will borrow strongly from recent New York Times Best Seller by Christie Golden, 'World of Warcraft: Rise of the Lich King'.

'Warcraft' was originally scheduled for a release this year, although it became increasingly obvious that wasn't going to happen. Earlier this year, Sam Raimi was annouced as the film's director, and a new date of 2011 was given. Read more about this discovery over on our WoW channel.
