Super Street Fighter IV Officially Announced

Super Street Fighter IV has been officially announced.

Following on from what we heard yesterday, it transpires that SSFIV is an update of Street Fighter IV due for retail release in Spring 2010.

Originally, the title was to be downloadable content, Capcom's Yoshinori Ono told Gamespot. However, particular parts of the game code weren't really able to support the features being added, so a stand-alone release it is - although apparently, those who have an SFIV disc will get a bonus of some sort.

The game itself is due to have more characters, improved online, and a load of balancing done. Expect in the region of eight new characters, with some returning from old games and some brand new, although the number (and the planned roster) may change based on fan feedback.

The two announced characters, as we'd heard, are old-hand T.Hawk and newblood Juri. Juri, it seems, is a Korean Tae Kwon Do user with a variety of kicks, in addition to the usual energy blasts. T.Hawk plays much the same as he used to - he's a hulking powerhouse with the ability to deal a lot of damage.

All characters are expected to get a few more Ultras than they had previously, in addition to the rest of the balancing work, but the online mode appears to be getting a lot of work done with hints apparently dropped about a lobby system. Naturally, this means that SSFIV won't be compatible with SSIV online.

Expect Super Street Fighter IV on PS3 and Xbox 360 sometime in spring 2010, for less than the usual retail price. No word on a PC version as yet.
