Final Fantasy XIII's Yoshinori Kitase and Motomu Toriyama have said that future Final Fantasy titles hopefully won't take so long to develop.
The pair, when asked by VG247 about Square-Enix's CEO Yoichi Wada's comment that the company takes too long to produce games, responded via translator:
"For FFXIII there are a lot of firsts, and because it's a new console that the teams are working on, it took a little time for the team to get used to everything. Now that they have the engine built for it the basics are covered, so the development time for future projects should be shortened. Still, it may not be as simple as Wada thinks. [Laughs]"
Which seems a little odd. Final Fantasy X was released a year after Final Fantasy IX, despite IX being on PlayStation 1 and X being on PlayStation 2. We suppose that there have been lots of other side-titles in between XII and the forthcoming XIII, but nonetheless...
This is the same pair, of course, who recently mentioned that there is no work on a Final Fantasy VII remake, but not before adding a tantalising "yet."
