Further details have emerged on DS title Okamiden, the sequel to PS2/Wii cult hit Okami.
According to IGN's take on the Famitsu reveal, the game - titled Okamiden: Chisaki Taiyou, which roughly translates to Okami Chronicles: Tiny Sun - appears to be under development internally at Capcom, and originated because director Kuniomi Matsushita (director of the Wii port of Okami) went to producer Motohide Eshiro (producer of Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth) with a prototype of a portable Okami, saying that he wanted to bring the game to as many people as possible. Eshiro since turned it into a full product.
The game takes place three months after the end of Okami, and sees players controlling Chibiterasu, a much smaller white wolf than the original game's Amaterasu. Chibiterasu will have the assistance of partner characters such as Kuninushi, the son of the original game's Susano (and if you're wondering how Susano has had a son in the three months since the original game, this will apparently be revealed during the plot.)
Issun and Sakuya also return, with the plot apparently involving Sakuya attempting to once more summon Amaterasu, but ending up with Chibiterasu instead.
The gameplay also looks to remain intact, with players once more using the Celestial Brush to solve puzzles and battle enemies, but the controls have naturally been reworked to fit the DS' stylus input.
Okamiden isn't due out in Japan until 2010 so it will likely be awhile before we see a release over here, but we'll keep you posted as news comes up. For now, just look at the picture of Chibiterasu in the top right, courtesy of Kotaku. Altogether now: awwwwwwwwwwww.
