Rockstar Co-Founder Not Sold on DLC

Grand Theft Auto IVDan Houser, co-founder of Rockstar Games, has said DLC is not as effective as physical discs.

Houser doubts the effectiveness of digital distribution claiming the Grand Theft Auto IV expansions are not reaching all the fans. Both The Lost and the Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony will therefore be released separately on discs later this month, even after record sales for the content on Xbox Live.

Houser claims fans are more prone to buy physical products than virtual, telling USA Today that "as a consumer, I'm more comfortable buying songs, which are almost like playing a jukebox, than I am buying movies as purely digital items. We all feel that way, so we can surely get more people to experience it if we put it on a disc."

The article also reveals the inspiration behind the latest content, Ballad of Gay Tony, with Houser saying that the team "definitely wanted it to feel more like the way action films are when they get ridiculous."

The Ballad of Gay Tony is expected to be released on 29 October on both Xbox LIVE and on disc.  You can find more information here.
