THQ has revealed it is not threatened by EA Sports upcoming MMA title.
The publisher recently scored a big success with UFC 2009 Undisputed and was followed by the news that EA Sports will launch its own MMA title. THQ’s chief financial officer Paul Pucino told the Pacific Crest Securities Technology Leadership Forum (thanks Softpedia) that his company is in the better position:
“There's one premiere league here, and it's the UFC,” Pucino said, stressing the importance of the UFC brand.
“We have the octagon, and we have the announcers. We'd rather be in our position than any other position.”
UFC 2009 Undisputed has sold over two million copies since its release in May and was generally well-received by the critics, including us.
We suspect there’ll be a bit of a rivalry between the two franchises, especially since UFC’s Dana White recently slammed EA for allegedly turning down the option to make a UFC game. EA’s Peter Moore responded by saying he has the utmost respect for the sport and has wanted to make an MMA title for two years.
