SW:TOR Character Romance Possible
 Bill Vaughan

BioWare has given players an insight into the creation of the the Smuggler class in the upcoming MMO, Star Wars: The Old Republic, revealing that romance will be an option.

By all accounts, the Smuggler will be a smart-talking wise-cracking charmer and, following the route open to players in the original ToR game (the in-game kiss with Jedi NPC Bastila Shan caused a stir with players at the time), it sounds like romance is an option.

“Of all the stories in our game, the Smuggler ones are specifically written with an emphasis on humor and romance. If you’re playing this class, you get to say the funniest things (usually at the least appropriate times), and are always on the lookout for people who find charming rogues irresistible. You’ll be flirting with or laughing at the most exciting personalities in the galaxy: crime lords, gamblers, Bounty Hunters, senators, nobles, spies, Jedi and even Sith.”

Although Smugglers are famously up for earning a quit buck, they won't be found working for the Empire. And there is a nice selection of sidekicks to chose from, Han Solo didn't go anywhere without Chewbacca after all.

I spot a 'most popular' character coming up. It'll be a bit of a giggle as long as he has some cheesy one-liners.

Do any other MMOs handle romance?

As far as MMOs like WoW and AoC go, I don't think they handle it at all. I know some RPGs have it, but online games seem to shy away from romance. Probably for good reasons.

But as long as Bioware deal with it responsibly (ie. only romances with NPCs where scripted events go on), I can't see any harm.

Asteria
I just watched the Mass Effect video that caused a stir with so-called 'sexual' scenes and it's a bit much to get irate at that. It showed absolutely nothing, it was all left up to the imagination apart from the hand at the end and for all we know she could have been hailing a taxi. Well, it's possible:)

Hahaha! I know what you mean Asteria. Same here, don't know what all the fuss was about. There's a LOT worse out there. I remember some game I played years ago, Gothic 2? You can frequent 'ladies of the night' in that game and there's a full-on cutscene each time... much worse than Mass Effect IMO.
