id's Rage Runs Faster On 360 Than PS3

id's John Carmack has revealed that Rage currently runs faster on PC and Xbox 360 than on PS3.

The news comes from a reveal in the latest issue of Edge magazine, in which it is stated that the Xbox 360 version matches the PC's 60fps framerate, while the PS3 runs at "20-30 fps."

"The PS3 lags a little bit behind in terms of getting the performance out of it," said id's technical director John Carmack. "The rasteriser is just a little bit slower - no two ways about that."

"The RSX is slower than what we have in the 360. The CPU is about the same, but the 360 makes it easier to split things off, and that's what a lot of the work has been, splitting it all into jobs on the PS3."

This interests us, not least because until now it's seemed like the 360 was going to struggle with the title. Previous reports have indicated that the game will be split across several DVDs on the 360 version, while the PS3 will be able to run it off a single Blu-Ray disc. Apparently, the PC version may be the one you want if you don't want disc-swaps or low framerates.

It's also noted that a Mac version is still in development, which we imagine will please all four of you who still try to play games on that particular system.

Thanks to CVG for this.
