Avatar: The Game 3D Effects Require HDMI

James Cameron's Avatar: The Game will require HDMI for the shiny 3D effects.

The game will support both 2D and 3D, but Xbox 360 users who want to play in 3D will have more difficulty than most.

According to the MTV Multiplayer blog, you'll need 1080p resolution in order to see the 3D effects - which means early 360 adopters, who don't have an HDMI port in the back of the system, will not be able to make use of them even if they have a TV with 3D support and the required 3D glasses.

Still, that's better than Wii owners, who won't be getting 3D at all. According to Luc Duchaine, Avatar's senior international brand manager, it could only be done on that system with anaglyph 3D - the red and blue glasses. However, "anaglyph doesn't offer a quality image, and quality is synonymous with the James Cameron name," so no luck there. We're assuming the DS and PSP versions won't feature 3D, either.

Do people still have early 360s? We keep hearing about "red rings of death," although we initially assumed that was something to do with the morning after a curry.

You can have a look at the latest screenshots of Avatar over here in preparation for its December launch.
