Peter Jackson has confirmed his rumoured film and game additions to the Halo franchise will not happen.
Jackson stated that internal conflict at the two studios involved in the franchise, Fox and Universal, prevented the film from going ahead.
"Well, Microsoft has a whole strategy with the Halo property, and when the rights expired with the two studios, that sort of ended my involvement with the project,” Jackson told Joystiq.
“That fell apart because of internal politics at Fox and Universal. It had nothing to do with the budget or anything else. In fact, we hadn't even been greenlit at all at that point.”
Jackson went on to say that the episodic Halo games he was planning, known as the Halo Chronicles, have also been cancelled.
“That Halo project is no longer happening,” he said.
“It sort of collapsed when the movie didn't end up happening.”
The news follows Pirates of the Caribbean screenwriter Stuart Beattie’s announcement last week that he has written a script for a Halo film based on Eric Nyland’s Fall of Reach novel.
