EA has stated that FIFA and Pro Evolution on the Wii are targeted at different markets.
Speaking to IncGamers, FIFA 10 line producer Sid Misra said that the game’s new direction means it’s not in direct competition with Konami's Pro Evolution Soccer.
“If we try and compare FIFA on Wii this year to PES's Wii offering that came out earlier in the year, it's really apples and oranges this time around,” said Misra.
“We've gone for more arcade gameplay, and they've gone down a simulation path, and really that was based on all the feedback that we've gotten.”
He went on to say that the decision to shift FIFA 10’s gameplay towards arcade action was not due to the success of PES on the Wii.
“The research we've done, the feedback we've got, says that this game should be heading in a bit of a different direction,” he added.
“There’s probably a market that still exists in the other direction, but that's just not the experience we want to deliver.”
FIFA 10 on the Wii is due for release on 2 October. Check out the full interview with Misra, as well as our preview of the PS3 version of the game.
