SW: TOR: The Voice-Over Production
 Bill Vaughan

The latest developer blog from the guys behind the upcoming MMO, Star Wars: The Old Republic, takes a look at the decision, planning and production of the voice-overs in the game, involving hundreds of thousands of recorded lines.

The director of audio and localisation for BioWare explains that while BioWare wrote all the scripts, created the schedules and would be responsible for the tracking and integration of the VO material, the LucasArts audio department were in charge of actually recording the voices and sending them on to BioWare.

The teams were aiming for the quality of the finished product to match that of the VO in KOTOR, however, TOR is at least ten times the size of the earlier title. To get the work done on time, recordings are still being made in Los Angeles, London, New York, San Francisco and Toronto. Hundreds of actors will have been  involved in the game by the time it is completed, with over 40 novels worth of materiel having been recorded.
