EVE Online Suffers Another 'Scandal'

The EVE Online universe was rocked once again recently as another theft from a large bank took place.

In a similar move to an event earlier this year, as discussed in our MMO Weekly at the time, a high ranking member of a community-driven bank decided to empty the coffers. In the earlier case, the offending player did this purely to spite other members of the corporation, handing the goods over to their arch enemies. This is perfectly within the rules on EVE.

However, in this latest incident the thief, known as Ricdic, took the in-game currency from EBANK, the self-proclaimed largest financial entity ever seen in EVE, and promptly sold it for real currency. Ricdic apparently made over £3,000 GBP by selling the currency, which is against the game's rules, and has since been banned.

Ricdic, who is known to be an Australian man by the name of Richard, has spoken about the incident, claiming that he isn't proud of his actions, but that he would probably do it again if placed in that situation.

EBANK faced mass withdrawals after the incident, as players' confidence in the corporation dropped. The amount stolen was around 200 billion kredits which made up roughly eight percent of EBANK's holdings.
