Gaikai, a new way to play games via streaming, has been demonstrated in a video released by the developers.

The streaming service, which was first seen at the GDC earlier this year, means that players can have access to a selection of games with no need to install the client, worry about patches, or even have the hardware to deal with the graphics. The games are run on remote servers, then played through a browser.

People may be forgiven for being slightly sceptical, but a quick look at the video, seen below, should put most minds at rest. The demonstrator, David Perry, is using a data travel distance of 800 miles at the time of this video and no particular 'lag' is noticeable.

Games shown in the demo include World of Warcraft, MarioKart 64, Spore, Star Wars LEGO and EVE Online. Stay tuned for more news about Gaikai as it happens.
