No StarCraft 2 LAN To Stop Piracy

Another statement from Blizzard gives further details on the thinking behind the lack of LAN play in StarCraft 2.

The removal of LAN play from StarCraft 2 has been a hot topic since IncGamers broke the story yesterday and a further statement from Blizzard adds another element to the debate, the one of piracy. In response to the lack of LAN play, Blizzard's Bob Calayco added:

"While this was a difficult decision for us, we felt that moving away from LAN play and directing players to our upgraded Battle.net service was the best option to ensure a quality multiplayer experience with StarCraft II and safeguard against piracy."

Piracy is always an issue but is forcing gamers to logon to Battle.net the right way to ensure piracy is kept to a minimum? Not everyone has decent Internet access or wants to even play through the Internet when a much more enjoyable experience can be had playing on a LAN with friends with no lag or connection issues. Being required to login to Battle.net will help curb piracy, and we have seen other developers take a similar stance with game such as Red Alert 3, but it can be frustrating.

StarCraft fans will no doubt hope their voices are heard through the online petition which is now gathering momentum.
