Microsoft Announces Stand-Alone Wireless Mics

Microsoft has announced that stand-alone wireless microphones will be available this fall.

The Xbox 360 Wireless Microphone will work fine with 360-exclusive Lips, as well as more recent - and forthcoming - releases such as Guitar Hero: Metallica or The Beatles: Rock Band, and following a title update, should work with older titles such as Rock Band 2.

The mics will feature "interactive motion sensors and lights," which makes us think of the Lips mics. Speaking of the Lips mics, we seem to recall that they're also due to work with games like Rock Band 2 following a title update. Hmm.

The stand-alone mics are due out this fall at the price of $49.99 USD - which seems a bit steep, considering that it looks like you can buy the Lips game bundle with two microphones for less. Double hmm. We'll have to wait and see if these turn out to be improvements on the Lips mics, it seems.

No word yet on a European release or pricing strategy.
