Ghostbusters developer Terminal Reality has responded to questions about the visuals in the PS3 version of the game.
Earlier in the week a number of sites reported a noticeable difference in the visual quality of the game on the PS3 compared to the Xbox 360, which led to much speculation that the game does not run in 720p on the PS3.
Today, Terminal Reality has pretty much confirmed the visual disparity in a statement to Joystiq.
“For the record, the PS3 version [of Ghostbusters] is softer due to the 'quincunx' antialiasing filter and the fact we render at about 75% the resolution of the 360 version,” said a spokesperson from the developer.
“So you cannot directly compare a screen shot of one to the other unless you scale them properly. The PS3 does have less available RAM than the 360 – but we managed to squeeze 3 out of 4 textures as full size on the PS3."
The statement seems to be at odds with a comment made by Terminal Reality’s Mark Randel last year:
“We’re one of the few developers who love the PS3 and have a great time with it," he said.
"We have great technology for the PS3 and we want to show it off.”
