Two Midway studios, in Newcastle and San Diego, look set to close unless a new buyer or investors can be found.
The studios were not part of Warner Bros’ $33m USD takeover bid and now have until the end of June to secure a buyer or investment. Despite the threat of closure, the Newcastle team is still working hard on an unannounced title and of its 77 staff, only three have left.
“"The heartbreaking thing for me is having people come to me and tell me they are talking to another company about a job because of the situation,” Newcastle studio head Craig Duncan told the Guardian, “but they don't want to leave the studio, and if the studio goes forward they will stay…”
We've contacted Midway and we'll have more details later today.
The Newcastle studio’s most recent output was Wheelman featuring Vin Diesel, which was met with mixed reviews. Find out what we thought here.
