The 20 fake Dante's Inferno protesters now create real protesters.
In an attempt to gain attention for the new game Dante's Inferno, EA's viral marketing agency hired 20 people to wave signs and hand out pamphlets protesting the game's release. LA Times fell for it, but it soon transpired that the protest was fake.
EA appears to have got exactly what they wanted out of this stunt. Real angry Christians have now started complaining they are portrayed like screaming lunatics with no sense of humour. Margaret Cabaniss of InsideCatholic wrote "the entertainment industry views Christians on the whole as priggish, thin-skinned fun-killers."
Catholic Video Gamers added "gamers of all varieties will buy the game if it's good, so instead of engaging in a shamelessly anti-Christian stunt to promote your poor excuse of a product, maybe you ought to work on making this game, you know, something better than a blatant God of War rip-off and make it, ya know, something worthwhile?"
Yup, they seem to be all about the fun.
IncGamers notes there are no official complaints from other religious organisations on the matter (yet).
