Over 15,000 Left 4 Dead fans have promised to boycott Left 4 Dead 2 (L4D2).

The L4D2 Boycott social group at Steam feel the sequel will "split the communities and decrease the quality of multiplayer gaming," and the content so far announced "does not warrant a stand-alone, full-priced sequel and should instead become updates (free or otherwise) for Left 4 Dead," particularly as "Left 4 Dead has not yet received the support and content which Valve has repeatedly stated will be delivered."

"Therefore, we - the members of this Left 4 Dead 2 Boycott - promise to abstain from the purchase of Left 4 Dead 2 until our requests are addressed."

A statement by the group (now removed) also said Valve "put little faith in L4D1 since they almost certainly started working on L4D2 right after release."

L4D2 Boycott requests continued DLC packs, and the sequel to be released as a discount expansion or a free download.

The L4D sequel ships 17 November with five new campaigns, a new melee weapon system, more than 20 new weapons, variant special infected, zombie dismemberment, four new survivors, dynamic weather effects, and a third "secret" multiplayer mode. Read more in our E3 Left 4 Dead 2 preview.

Whether or not the new features will truly make sequel material, we'll just have to wait and see.

Servers at their peak are sitting around 18k players and so far the group has attracted 17k accounts to boycott the sequel. Look at those % I don't believe Value can ignore this pressure group.
