Star Wars Battlefront Elite Due In Autumn

LucasArts has revealed the two handheld entries to the Battlefront series will be released this Autumn.

Star Wars Battlefront: Elite, due out on DS and PSP, will feature multi-tiered battles allowing players to fight on the ground and in space. Players can begin a match on foot and then use one of the game’s many vehicles to continue the battle in space.

Although in the past Battlefront has been primarily an online title, Battelfront: Elite will sport a single player campaign spanning the entire film series (and beyond) as the player takes on the role of X2, a clone trooper who was created using the DNA of a Jedi Master. After the Emperor implements Order 66 in an attempt to wipe out the Jedi, X2 turns against him and joins the Rebellion. However, his brother X1 who also shares Force genetics, pursues a darker path and a confrontation becomes inevitable.

The PSP version of the game will apparently offer the most extensive customisation options in a Battlefront title to date with hundreds of bonus items to be unlocked. Players can choose exactly how to kit out their character in order to optimise their battlefield performance.

The DS version will feature more standard class-based gameplay as well as four player multiplayer skirmishes. A new Heroes and Villains mode will allow players to take on the role of iconic figures in the lore, including Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, Darth Maul and more.  PSP owners can look forward to 16 player online action and “in-depth stat tracking.”
