Warner Bros. Bids For Most Of Midway
 Tamer Asfahani

Midway has announced it has received an offer for more than $33 million USD from Warner Bros. for the majority of the company.

According to a report on Kotaku, Geoffrey Mogilner, director of corporate communications for Midway, said that the offer was "in writing" and that "there is interest" in the company.

It's no surprise as Warner Bros. has already started its expansion into the videogames world with offerings such as F.E.A.R. 2, Wanted and the iminent Terminator Salvation.

The Warner Bros. offer will not include the Newcastle (most recently Wheelman) and San Diego studios, Mogilner said, however the rights to Wheelman are on offer.

The agreement does include rights to Mortal Kombat and Midway's studios in Chicago and Seattle.

The news comes after reports that Warner Bros. was looking to get more invovled in the videogames industry and acquiring more assets to expand its productions, whether it was Eidos, a company they already have shares in, or a new one, such as Midway.

But Mogilner said the Warner Bros. offer was just that, and he expected other interested parties to make a bid.

"We've been actively speaking with a number of interested parties and continue to do so.

"We're expecting other potential investors to come in and make bids on portions, set of assets or the whole thing."

It's seems to be a pattern of Warner Bros., however.  Instead of taking the companies on completely, it becomes a major shareholder, and with it comes the rights to all its movies, so this mightn't be such a bad deal for Midway, especially if some of its studios are retaining independence.
