Sega has today announced that Jambo! Safari will be coming to both Wii and DS later this year.
The game, an update of a 1990s arcade action game, gives you control of one of four fully customisable park ranger wannabes. In order to become a fully qualified ranger, you're going to have to perform "high speed challenges and exciting rescue missions," all set around the free-roaming African Plains environment.
These missions vary from rescuing, diagnosing, and treating animals, to photography, sight-seeing, and hot air balloon rides - all while driving around in one of four licensed vehicles, naturally, including the Land Rover Defender 90 and 110.
On DS, Jambo! Safari Animal Rescue will use stylus and dual-screens, while the Wii's Jambo! Safari Ranger Adventure lets you swing your Wiimote like a lasso, and use both Wiimote and Nunchuk to drive around. The Wii version also features co-op play and four-player party games, including the intriguingly titled Meerkat Madness, and Ostrich Racing. We expect to hear from PETA on the latter.
"Jambo! Safari makes learning fun," says SEGA Europe's European marketing director, Gary Knight. "Whilst children are player the game and rescuing the wild animals they collect information cards, meaning they learn the characteristics of the animals and their natural habitat as they play."
Both Jambo! Safari games are due out towards the end of the year, and you can see the first screenshots for the Wii version below.
