Information on Activision's forthcoming Guitar Hero 5 has been revealed.
We can expect 85 master tracks (including over 30 artists "making their music-rhythm video game debut") and these won't be played in a normal way as players will be able to customise the makeup of their band. If you want to play with two guitars and two drums, or three guitars and a microphone, go for it. At this stage we don't actually know how this will impact the game, however - whether people will simply be playing the same note charts, or whether instruments not present will have an audio track, for instance.
Other than that, we're promised Party Play, which allows players to drop in and out of gameplay; RockFest, which is a competitive experience with five new head-to-head modes playable online or in person; and something we suspect a lot of people will find pleasing: the ability to play the game's entire setlist from the very beginning.
We can also expect updates to the GHMusic Studio, though no word on whether we'll be able to add our own lyrics this time around.
And that's far from everything. In-game, there are Band Moments, which rewards bands for hitting "special note streams together," and song challenges, which tasks players to go through songs in a specific way.
Will Star Power be individual? Will we be able to save our bandmates from failure? At this stage, no idea.
Inevitably, though, it's the songs you're interested in, and we can reveal eight of the 85 tracks now:
- The Rolling Stones - Sympathy for the Devil
- Bob Dylan - All Along the Watchtower
- The White Stripes - Blue Orchid
- Santana - No One To Depend On (Live)
- Vampire Weekend - A-Punk
- Tom Petty - Running Down a Dream
- Johnny Cash - Ring of Fire
- Kings of Leon - Sex on Fire
Two screenshots of the game are available, both of which are below.
We can expect Guitar Hero 5 sometime in Autumn.
