Sega's Toshihiro Nagoshi has revealed a new PS3-exclusive Yakuza title is currently in development.
In the upcoming issue of Japanese games mag Famitsu, Toshihiro Nagoshi apparently reveals a new Yakuza game is in the works.
"This title will be a PLAYSTATION 3 game," he states and, given that previous Yakuza games have been Sony-exclusives, we expect this to go the same way.
The game is reportedly not a sequel to Ryu Ga Gotoku 3 (the last true entry in the Yakuza series), but Nagoshi says it retains the essence of the game according to Kotaku. He says even outlandish events will make sense and "if main character Kiryu Kazuma went to outer space or fought zombies, I think fans would accept that and say, 'I get it.'"
Nagoshi also confirmed the game is not a sequel to the spin-off title, Ryu Ga Gotoku KENZAN either, set in Edo-era Kyoto and released in Japan last year.
We've seen big promotional campaigns for previous Yakuza titles, and this game will be no different. Nagoshi talks about a concept called "Everyone Can Participate" which will select fans to fill out the game's cast. Starting tomorrow, SEGA will accept applications (18+ only) for club hostess-type characters and applications for male roles will also begin soon.
