S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat Announced

GSC Gameworld has announced S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat, the latest title in the shooter series.

Due for release later this year, this new game in the S.T.A.L.K.E.R series will be the third stand-alone title in the franchise. This new game follows events after S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl, and after discovering the path to the Zone centre, the government decides to "hold a large-scale military 'Fairway' operation aimed to take the CNPP under control".

The game's story follow events after the military dispatch air scouts which fail to map the area when the helicopters. Ukraine's Security Service then decide to send in an agent to find out what happened and this is where the player joins the game.

Features being touted include a new story, unique characters, side quests, a 'freeplay mode' and a new interface. The game is being developed using the  X-Ray engine v.1.6.
