Reports are surfacing that the Resident Evil 5 Versus Mode DLC may already be on the disc.
The premium DLC, released earlier today, is just under 2mb in size. This, naturally, is fueling rumours that the DLC is in the hated format of being content that's already on the disc, and gamers are merely paying to unlock content they have already.
NegativeGamer has a report that ponders the likelihood of this, pointing out that disc unlock DLC is usually much smaller than this, and shows the original quote from Capcom which states that the DLC "makes use of the assets that exist in the game [but] the functionality is not currently in the game and beyond the initial scope of Resident Evil 5."
We're inclined to believe that it's not a disc unlock, ourselves. As stated, disc unlocks are normally much smaller, and the Versus mode appears to reuse the models, maps, etc. from the other modes in the game, most notably Mercenaries, so it could potentially also use the netcode and the like too. 2mb doesn't seem unreasonable for something that largely adds in a front-end and the scoring mechanics for the game.
We'll keep you informed as we learn more.
