Silent Hill: Shattered Memories Detailed

Silent Hill: Shattered Memories has been officially announced, and with the announcement has come a slew of new details.

The game, coming for Wii, PS2, and PSP, is a pseudo-remake of the original Silent Hill, but it has plenty of changes.

The plot still revolves around Harry Mason looking for his daughter in Silent Hill, but with enhancements for Wii, amongst other things. We previously reported that there are to be no locked doors in Shattered Memories, which will doubtlessly fill sub-editor Andy Alderson's heart with joy. The screams of anguish heard from the games room when he encountered yet another locked door while reviewing Silent Hill: Homecoming terrified even those of us who didn't have the guts to look at the game.

Those Wii enhancements revolve, unsurprisingly, around the Wiimote, with it doubling as both flashlight and cellphone. The former is fairly self-explanatory, while the second will function as a "secondary user interface," letting you take pictures and access maps. In addition to this, the Wiimote will be used to "pick up, examine, and manipulate items to solve puzzles."

However, the most interesting thing mentioned is certainly the "psyche profile element." The game tracks how you approach everything that goes on, monitoring where you explore first, what items you've examined, and the way you react to the people - and things - that you meet. This will apparently alter small visual elements when you play, as well as adapting Harry's actions "as and when he meets normal-looking people or the game's many inhuman denizens."

We're not quite sure how much of an impact that will have on gameplay, but we're looking forward to finding out. Silent Hill: Shattered Memories is due out on Wii, PS2, and PSP this Autumn. The PS2 and PSP versions will have a "familiar" control scheme, but will contain all of the other changes.
