FunCom are working on a free trial campaign for the MMO Age of Conan.
In the hopes that the free trial will allow the game to reach a wider audience, FunCom are following in the footsteps of other successful MMOs. Mythic's Warhammer Online has recently introduced a free trial, and World of Warcraft also has a long-standing system which has resulted in many players taking up the game full-time.
In an open letter from the Game Director, it was also revealed that AoC's next update will be hitting the test servers over the next week. There will be a lot of information when the servers come online, but for now we know that there will be a new Gem-crafting system along with some class changes.
There is also talk of a new focus for the development team from purely "Combat Combat Combat" to Content, Conflict, Characters and Community.
This follows recent news that AoC has been nominated in two categories of the Nordic Game Awards as well as the release of the game in Russia and Poland, but most notably that AoC is rumoured to be struggling due to low subscription figures.
