Following this morning’s announcement that the latest DLC episode for Fallout 3, The Pitt, is now available to download, a number of users are reporting major problems with the game.
According to posts on Major Nelson’s site and the official Bethesda forums, a number of users have reported “glitchy” textures, freezes and, bizarrely, giant floating exclamation marks.
So far, reinstallation hasn’t helped and moderators on the Bethesda forum have suggested “missing meshes” may be to blame.
“Since yellow exclamation marks were an indicator of missing meshes in Morrowind and Oblivion, I would personally guess that the red exclamation marks denote missing meshes in Fallout 3,” said moderator Princess Stomper.
“If that is indeed the case, you just need to wait for the missing files to be uploaded and it will resolve the problem fully and instantly: with Morrowind, a missing mesh or texture could cause a crash, and just adding that file would fix it. If that is the problem in this instance, then there is absolutely nothing that any of us can do (short of creating the missing art ourselves!) but wait for a fix.”
This isn’t the first time Bethesda has released buggy DLC for one of its titles. The Shivering Isles expansion for Oblivion included a pretty major bug which rendered the game unplayable for many users.
UPDATE: Bethesda has addressed the problem on its official blog. The DLC has been taken down from LIVE until the problem can be fixed. The statement is as follows:
"We are continuing to look into the issues people are experiencing with The Pitt for Xbox 360. As of now it looks like the file for the English version on Xbox Live was somehow corrupted. We are currently working with Microsoft to remove the existing file off of Live to prevent any further downloads. Our plan is to replace it with a new file as soon as possible. We hope to have another update for you shortly."
Stay tuned for more info.
