A Developer of the recently released MMO, Darkfall Online, has issued a warning to players about cheating and abusing macros.
In a post on the official Darkfall forums, developer Tasos spelled it out to players: Anyone using macros in certain protected areas (safe from other players) will receive one warning, any further occurrences will cause players to be kicked from the game. Repeated offences will result in a ban. Spamming certain spells or "disruptive" macros within those areas may cause players to be kicked without warning.
He also went on to warn that repeated macroing anywhere in the world, which is a sign of a program operating a character instead of a human, could also result in a kick. If players do use cheats, hacks, bots or mods which modify or alter the game at all, this will result in an instant ban:
"There will be no appeal. No excuses such as “I was just testing” will be accepted. We will detect and enforce aggressively."
Many MMOs suffer from players cheating and/or using 'bots', programs which control players' characters and perform certain actions such as killing monsters or gathering resources without the need for the player to be present.
In the first case of its kind, Blizzard Entertainment recently won a court battle against the developer of the bot 'MMO Glider', which was used by players in their MMO World of Warcraft. Blizzard was also able to detect the use of the program and many WoW players were permanently banned from the game.
