Scout Update For TF2 Launched

The Scout update for Team Fortress 2 has launched today, Valve announced.

As we've previously reported, the patch adds in a whole host of new content, mostly focused on the Scout.

He'll be getting his hands on a pair of new unlockable weapons - the Sandman baseball bat, and the Force-A-Nature shotgun - plus the Bonk energy drink. For full details, check our earlier stories, linked above.

A poll of players was used to determine which order these would be unlocked in, and the results are in. The Force-A-Nature shotgun will be unlocked with the completion of 10 of the new achievements, the Sandman will take 15, and the Bonk drink will take 20. Plenty to do to see it all, then.

Three new maps are added, with a variety of ideas and locations, and a previous map has been updated.

Scouts aren't the only ones getting some love, of course. A fair few bugs have been fixed, new sounds have been added - mostly related to the new Scout stuff, admittedly - but a couple of new things have also been added. Bonus points are added to the scoreboard, which seem to be used to reward players who're playing their class like they should, judging from the example of Scouts getting bonus points for killing a Medic who's healing someone.

Spies will also be a bit harder to spot, as they can now change the weapon they're displaying when disguised. The sneaky backstabbing gits.

To download this update, just log onto Steam, and the autodownloader should patch up TF2 automatically.
